Wilton DIY-Lish Kit Review

June 13, 2019 By Lynn Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but fondant sounds intimidating to me. Well, until I saw the new kits from Wilton called DIY-Lish Kits. Charlie and I recently tried our hand at fondant with the help of this Cute Critters Kit. Wilton sent us a free kit to try out and review. Pretty rad!

Charlie has been asking since we started making cakes if we could use fondant to decorate with. I didn’t know where or how to start, so I kept putting off her request. I am happy to report however that it is not as hard as I thought! Especially with this kit. The DIY-Lish Cute Critters Kit comes with white, brown and black fondant, two steel cookie cutters, a roller, and an easy to follow recipe card.

It was all laid out for us on the recipe card. Like so simple my 6 year old could do it! Everything you need to get started in right in the box…. So no guessing on what you need to buy. I always love when a kit does the hard work for me. No running back and forth to the store to get all the supplies and ingredients. You can just open it up and get creative!!

The instructions for the kit show you how to make a bunny, badger, or a bear. Charlie saw the kit and knew within a second that she wanted to make a panda bear and a red panda. It thought it was the perfect way to use this kit! The colors that came with it where perfect for those two animals. By adjusting just a few of the shapes and colors we could easily create those with the help of the step by step recipe card.

For the panda we used the white fondant and cut a circle out for the head. We use the tear drop cookie cutter to cut the black part of the eyes and the ears. The other parts of the eyes and nose where just tiny pieces of fondant rolled into balls and pressed into the shapes we needed to create the rest of the face. There are also black candies in the kit for eyes. We used them to bring our bears to life.

The red panda was simple too! We used the instructions for the badger and just changed the colors and the shape of the ears. For the ears we used the pointed end of the tear drop cookie cutter.

Thank you Wilton for showing us how easy fondant can be! We love how our panda cake turned out… it is almost so cute that we don’t want to eat it!

There are four different kits you can try. Each will teach you a new technique and help you to create something fun and delicious. There is a Mermaid Cupcake Kit, a Gummy Cupcake Decorating Kit, the Cute Critters Decorating Kit, and Popsicle Lollypop Candy Making Kit.

You can head over to Wilton’s website to see all four by clicking HERE.

When were moved into our home the basement was not finished, but it was partially framed. One of those framed walls was a little funky. It did not line up with the other “walls” it would meet up with. I wasn’t sure how to make it work with the room behind it. At the same […]
