How To Fix Recessed Outlets

February 25, 2019 By Lynn Leave a Comment

Okay! Have you been hit by the shiplap craze? It’s a good craze to be hit by. JoAnna Gain’s here we come!! Shiplapping ALL the things!! Who’s with me?!

Well, if you have done shiplap or you have wanted to but felt a little intimidated I have a helpful tip for you! When you put up shiplap your wall outlets become recessed, they are now set back too far for the cover to go back on. NO FEAR! You can do this! Don’t call an electrician, you just need to get three things.

    1. Flat head screw driver
    2. Outlet Spacers- I like these ones by Ideal- Click Here
    3. Longer Screws- Between 1.25- 2 inches depending on the depth of your shiplap

Before you start!! Go to your breaker and turn OFF the power to this part of your home. You don’t want to get electrocuted. blog pic

The placement of one wrong finger could get ugly and HURT!  So be careful and smart!

You can see exactly how I fix these outlets in this video below.

When were moved into our home the basement was not finished, but it was partially framed. One of those framed walls was a little funky. It did not line up with the other “walls” it would meet up with. I wasn’t sure how to make it work with the room behind it. At the same […]
