Goblin Valley with Kids

June 1, 2018 By Lynn Leave a Comment

We recently took our first trip to Goblin Valley in Southern Utah.  Is was nothing short of amazing!  We had a great time exploring and seeing all the different types of rocks this area had to offer.

The best time to travel here, especially with kids is during the spring or fall- October is supposed to have the ideal temperature. It can get HOT! And there is no water anywhere near this area to swim or cool off. Which brings me to my first tip! Bring squirt guns! After a long day of hiking you can head back to camp and spray each other off. There is a spicket in the state camp ground you can use to fill these up. Thankfully it was right across from our camp site for easy fill up and there was lots of space behind our camp site for the kids to go to town.

How awesome is this site?? I was kind of like a dream setting up here. The kids could run up right behind our site to climb and hike. OR squirt each other down with cool water. :)

My second tip for Goblin Valley with kids is…..BUBBLES!!! Take some bubbles in your back pack and if the little’s are getting a bit tired, take a break for bubbles. It gets them excited all over again and gives just enough of a break so they can reboot.

This gave our littlest a nice break from the front carrier and let her stretch her legs. And the other kids always love bubbles!

My third tip! If it is hot OR just for fun, head over to the goblins during sunset. It is much cooler and it is absolutely beautiful to see the rocks be lit up by the sun. You can get some great silhouette pictures as the sun goes down (see the last picture on this post). Then! You can bust out your flash lights and explore during the dark of night. We did this one night with our kids (you can only do this if you are staying in the park over night) and they loved it! The rocks make different shapes at night and added an extra cool factor to our exploration.

My last tip on traveling pretty much anywhere with kids in nature is to just plan to take your time. Let them be the explores they are! After all, this is meant to be fun and for them to learn how amazing our world is. We hope our children love these little family adventures and cherish these times as some of their greatest memories.

Can you see the duck?

Or this turtle? Our kids imaginations ran wild with all the things they could see in the rock formations.

When were moved into our home the basement was not finished, but it was partially framed. One of those framed walls was a little funky. It did not line up with the other “walls” it would meet up with. I wasn’t sure how to make it work with the room behind it. At the same […]
