Wall Bookcase

July 22, 2015 By Lynn 4 Comments

Since my kids are sharing a room there won’t be much space for a bookcase with two twin beds in the room.  I saw some great wall bookcases at the Utah Valley Parade of Homes this summer and thought I can totally do that!

Maybe….? doubt swept it…. then I called my dad who is a carpenter…. he was busy at work….I call my husband…”we can totally make that babe”…but really he was too busy with work too! Geez! I mean do these people have to work for a living or something?! 😉 Just teasing, so grateful for my hard working men. But, what was I to do? I wanted this done before I had the painters come to paint the board and batten project I just finished.  That way I could make it look like it flowed with the whole room. The week went by fast and I still could not figure out how I was going to build this…two days left before the painters would arrive….

Then a miracle from the god’s of Pinterest – they sprinkled their magic DIY dust on my head and POOF! THERE. IT. WAS. Plans from an Ana White Tutorial. All nicely laid out for me.  Thank you Ana!!! You are amazing!

YAY!!! I ran to Home Depot for the wood, modified the plans a little for my space and cut the wood. I was on a roll!!

The next morning (morning of the painters arrival) my husband and I got up super early and put it all together. We didn’t use screws like in Ana’s instructions, instead we put it together with our nail gun and 2 inch finish nails. We popped it all together in about an hour, then screwed it into the studs in the wall.

I hurried to patch the nail and screw holes before the painters came. It fits perfectly and is super sturdy!  I am so thankful for those Ana White plans! Click HERE it get her plans for this project.

When were moved into our home the basement was not finished, but it was partially framed. One of those framed walls was a little funky. It did not line up with the other “walls” it would meet up with. I wasn’t sure how to make it work with the room behind it. At the same […]
